For 15 years, the country of Athela has been at war with its own greatest creation: a legion of robots called DRACOs, mysteriously turned violent and uncontrollable shortly after mysteriously attaining sentience. Since the creation of their counter-measure cousins, the PULSARs, they're held mostly at bay— but peace is tenuous at best.

Fourteen-year-old Arthur Steele wants nothing to do with the war that took his father from him. But when a visit to the ruins of Athela's former capitol ends with him permanently connected to a DRACO, his life is irreversibly changed. Now, caught at the dangerous intersection of man and machine, he and his unexpected companion must learn to work together to disentangle themselves before the war can kill them both.
