The story follows the adventures of the USS Jim Slade, an undermanned and nearly-obsolete Starfleet communication ship, crewed by a ragtag bunch of misfits and captained by the title character, Commander Gentry Tuggs, a short bearded half-Tellarite (other half unknown) with an engineering background.
The story contains both longer episodic arcs and shorter one-shot strips (archived separately), and ranges in content from bawdy humour to standard Star Trek episodes to emotional drama delving into the past war traumas of crew-members.
