Now, five years after the plague was contained, the Terran Systems Navy is short on personnel. The Navy's largest difficulty is keeping up with the deficit of fighter pilots: anyone can man capital ships, but they need young, active women to fly the fighters.

This is when the Aurora Taskforce is dispatched to put down a recent rebellion in the Mars Asteroid Belt. Forced to train their pilots en route, they are unsure of their ability to fight, let alone win.
